Ongoing 59 DD project. This bus is IRS'd with dropped spindles and a 1600 sp dual carbs. Since starting the project I've collected OG Hurst Bumpers, full rack, KPH speedo, factory safaris and NOS front and rear lighting. As of Jan 2003, it just needs paint!

1959 truck shortened bed
Here is the 1959 VW truck I built several years ago, I cut 36" out of the bed and welded it back together. Flares the fenders, put wooden side rails, cab lights, west coast mirrors, exhaust stacks.

I didn't feel like fixing rust tonight, so I cobbled together an engine cart. The genius of this design is in the 'hook' to catch the front of the case, and the 'steps' on the rear portion so you have a place to put your feet for leverage. It's very easy to tip the engine back on the heater boxes, slide the kart underneath, and lay the engine on it; once the front of the case catches the hook, it's not going anywhere. The 2 forward casters are lockable, to help keep the whole mess from skittering away, just in case.

01/01/03 Thom Good point on the exhaust system. But I'm pretty sure I can easily modify it to work without the exhaust. The main reason I built this baby was so I wouldn't strain my back dragging engines around the garage, or trying to balance them on a floor jack or a skateboard while working on them.
12/30/02   Nice cart, but u cant use it if you dont have an exhaust system on the engine yet!

This is my 56 Standard. I've owned it since Labor Day, 2002. I spent a month and a half rebuilding, cleaning, and painting all the running gear/mechanicals. As of today, 12/6/02, I have put over 2400 miles on the bus. Not too bad for a $20 tranny! And now the bodywork and general appearance clean-up will commence....

12/07/02 me duh. but there is original paint under the not original paint (see rear pic for what i uncovered so far) unfortunately the nose had been replaced at one time, so i can't ever get the whole bus back to original. oh well...

my westy was squealing, pulling and grabbing for some new brakes up front. NOS riveted brake linings and NOS wheel cylinders did the trick just fine.
