VintageBus.com Image Gallery - Rare Buses and Parts

Pix of rare cars, parts, and accessories. I tend to be fairly conservative as to what is considered "rare," as the term is very overused.

This is a 1963 Volkswagen Bus, VIN1070383. Pickwick Electric Cooperative purchased the bus from a sound technician, on November 15, 1963, who installed the public address system. The bus was purchased new by the sound technician without back seats so the PA system could be installed. As of January 24, 2000, it has 14,310 actual miles on it. The PA system consists of a Bogen Amplifier model CT-100B, a Realistic tape deck, Realistic turntable model Lab 2100 and seven (7) speakers mounted on the roof of the bus.

01/22/06 Albert Does anyone know where this bus ended up? I was trying to buy it on eBay about 7 years ago, and lost out on it. I'd love to know where it ended up. e-mail me if you know.

Ben Lawrence's LHD twin sliding door 21-window deluxe. It is finished in public service orange (RAL2000). It was fitted with an eberpacher heater which is currently missing. It has two of those cool sliding door only window catches and is equipped with limited slip diff and close ratio mountain gears. You may have noticed the warning lamp on top! which is linked to a tachometer for airport use which currently reads 2000 odd hours. Ben has the original engineering drawing for the lamp, as well as the complete documents from when the van was ordered. It was ordered by Lufthansa Airways as a special order placed with Volkswagen in Hannover. The exact title for the van is 9 seater double sliding door 21 window samba deluxe. It was built at Hannover as a 1967 model built in 1966 and was used as a baggage van at the Geneva airport. This bus has 16,000 original kilometers.

Single cab (and probably double cab as well) version of Australian-only engine vents. The air comes in via extra openings above the windshield, through a special double-walled roof and rear wall, then through a channel beneal the bed, and finally into the engine compartment. Note the lack of vents in the corners, and that the roof of the truck is higher and more "bubbled" than normal.

Australian-only engine vents. The theory is that moving the vents up high kept some of the dust out of the engine compartment. There is ducting interally to route the air to the engine compartment.
