07/21/06 nick were did you get those speaker housings? the ones that u have hanging up toward the back ? i would die to have a pair of those!
12/20/04 Mose I DP'ed (Epoxy primer/sealer) The floor, then went over top of it with "Rhino-Liner". It is a durable spray on material used mainly in truck beds. This is the ultimate solution for me, since I am using the bus a lot for transporting the mountain bike. Paint would not hold up to the abuse and carpet would look good only for the first few months. It is about 1/4" thick and helps deaden sound inside the bus also.
12/16/04 Spengdog What's the finish on the cargo floor?

After 1.5 years, I finally got the bus on the road. She started out as a $800.00 gutted, rotted basket case of a bus. I did all the work (except the spray-in rhino liner and the seat upholstry) myself. Those long hours of welding and sanding are all forgotten and the pleasure of driving it is all worth it!

My Work
These are original from the factory "Diesel Kombis" they are build in 1981 and 1982 and they have that strange "front radiator" for cooling the engine. They use to work in very hot temperature, so the engine dont last longer. The VW stop de production because of it, but a lot of people stil use them to work as you can see in the pictures. I had not see any of these with colectors or museum, only in work, so the engine its not so bad. Here in Brazil the Diesel is cheeper than Gas thats wy they try these engine for a couple of years.

12/28/04 DON 'The Emissary' SERIBUTRA Some of these were sold in Mexico and were usually driven into the Southwest U.S. by Mexican nationals. I have seen a few pics of the Brasilian bus which is a mutant of 1950s body panels with the Bay Window parts.

Kombi 4x4 was developed for Dacunha Mobiles in association with QT Engineering and Equipaments (in 1980 and 1985 in Brazil). They develop one new 4 wd traction to be used with Volkswagen engine. The system was created for use in dirt roads, in rains seasons or difficult trespassing grounds. They build two and make fields tests but the Volkswagen was not interested. It could have been a nice option for off-road actions and travel with our bus. Dados: Motor3 Out/85

My bus is build in 1973 and have little diferences, like that corner glass window, and here there ar no skylight windows set in the roof line, only in the early 59 models. My bus is all original from the factory exept for the shift hand detail, and the cigarret lighter (3 of them) instaled on the pure air intake on the roof - (what a bad job, must be removed), and the seat covers. Here there are not Safaris Windows also. That is a shame, because here is a very hot country. I start the restoration projet and i wish to find this Safari Windows to buy, but in Brazil is impossible.
