When me and the fellas were out in the sticks we stopped at this old guys house who had some buses on his property. Looking in the engine compartment of this bus we found a snake that looked like the wiring loom.

Just given her a little spruce up, had trouble matching the paint. Apparently L61P is only made by a couple of manufacurers and costs a fortune. Any history on this colour would be appreciated

I have new Reproduction State of California camper (mobilehome) tag. I have seen these on EZ Camper, Sundial, Roadrunner, and Puck trailers. All camper conversions made in California came with a green tag like this. It is acid etched in aluminum and looks very similar to the original. they come like the tag on the bottom. The top tag is a tag that has been polished and holes drilled. To polish all I did was wet sand with 600 grit then polish with aluminum polish. The white dots in the scan is dust or reflections... they are not imperfections in the paint. The scan is the best I could get. Money orders or paypal accepted. thank you. note** these are reproduction tags and intended for display use only, but they were made to last outdors for 30 years** $15 each

These historic plates were a pain in the *** to obtain. It took 6 months and 10 trips to the DMV, but well worth the wait. Just make sure you know what the regulations are for your state and tell them what they want to hear. This bus is only to be trailered to shows as per California. Yeah Right!

08/14/02 tbonz Hey bellypans don't add strengtyh...they coserve it! you put that pan on your belly so you don't have to pick up the flying chips or have to jump up all of a sudden when you drop your roach!
08/09/02 Chris This past weekend I went to the Vacationland VW show in Windsor Maine and just after I pulled out of the parking lot at the end of the show I pulled over on the side of the road to find a map. Three Volkswagens full of people pulled over pretty much one after another to make sure everything was OK with my bus thinking I had pulled over to deal with engine toubles or something. On the drive home I was thinking that these peoples actions really summed up the Volkswagen Subculture which seems to be built on friendship but most importantly a full and unbridled love of Volkswagnes. I think a lot of the people that post on this site are hostile and critical and I think they should remember that it takes more then just owning a Volkswagen to be part of the Volkswagen Subculture. You may own a 1952 23-window deluxe but if you are an asshole you are as much a member of the Volkswagen Subculture as a nice Eurovan owner.
08/08/02 nate good on you julian, i am the PROUD owner of a 79 brazilian kombi and im sick to death of hearing people slag them off. i've always owned beetles and i am going to start another one very soon but i love my van, i mean how many other types of vehicles can you throw a 9 foot surfboard in the back of, rock up at the beach and get checked out by all the blondes!?
07/26/02 tony hughes hey good effort jules, the bus is looking cool,i will be up for sharing the fuel bill on a trip soon.JESUS there are a lot of het up nob heads that log on to this site, just for the oppertunity to slag somebody off, obviously not everybody you see driving a vw is cool.fucking nerds
07/25/02 omie what ever happened to the free spirited passion behind these wonderful vintage vehicles, why does everyone have to be so aggro and competetive?
05/23/02 Paula I am also looking for some cool interiors as mine is kinda blah...
It also has no pop top but has a large "sun roof"
I would like a pop addition....
I know I need some work but Ill get the lingo someday!!
05/23/02 Paula I am soooooo new to the VW world... Like 3 days new!! I have no idea what make my bus is... All I know about it is that it is a 78....
Is there anyone on this cool sight who can help me????
05/23/02 Jack What are you all fighting about, be happy, I would die for one of these things.
05/22/02 Ronnie Julian you got a super bus, especially after that roof conversion. I'm searching for a samba roof too, do you know any for sale en sweden ?(live in Denmark. I'm not a "welder-nerd" too, but i have a 65' double door standard with no belly pans, and they have never been there!. The bus doesn't flex, but when i get a samba roof in, i must do something about it, but not belly-pans..oh no not in this wet country. Best regards Ronnie
05/22/02 David You chill Cain before I give you a Kung Fu chop! If Limey Julie Ann can't stand the free expression of opinions he should stay on the porch...
05/22/02 shaolinbuddha Jesus, you lot are such a bunch of girls....
    CHILL OUT.
05/21/02 Jimmy Julian, don't cross the pond for a stateside event, just a reminder.
05/21/02 Mike Julian, I was simply telling you something that you needed to know to at least make the bus structurally correct, you took it offensively.
05/21/02 Dando Fredo Bravo!! Julian Dalton
Dando could not agree more.........Guys like "Pop Rivet" & "Chuck" do not belong in the VW Community.
05/21/02 Julian Dalton No I am not. The van is being professionally welded.
This site is obviously not for FRIENDLY discussion and advice but created for Pedantic enthusiasts to throw insults at those they consider unworthy of ownership.
I loathe intellectual snobbery of this type REALLY sorry I bothered uploading.
By the way folks at British shows do not harass and laugh at other owners it a really friendly HELPFUL family scene.Remind me not to cross the pond for one of your events
05/20/02 Pop Rivet Julian you are a bone head.

First off VW never 'tack welded' anything. You are probably refering to spot welds. Now you also probably do not know that 99.99% of all welds on ALL vws, none the less ALL vehicles manufactured to this day are SPOT WELDED!

Aparently you have little if no experience with welding. As if you did you would know that those belly pans spot welded in create an EXTREMELY amount of rigidity to the bus.

Yes, the belly pans are there for strength. These were used on any VW van that had structural design weakness...such as All sunroof buses, all double door buses and one most folks miss...all Westfalia built dormobile buses.

Put em on your bus or get ready for PLENTY of laughs and harassment at all the VW shows you draf you beast too. And be prepared for rejection when you try to sell her.
05/20/02 Thom If it was for road noise and heating, then why does my double-door panel have them?
Grab an enginering book and look up "moment"
05/20/02 julian Seen no literature on belly pans?? But seems that they were only tacked in. Hardly a structural thing? Possibly more for insulation. Road noise & heating on the deluxe Microbus perhaps.
05/20/02 Thom I'd put a sunroof section in my '56 kombi. It flexed horribly going over bumbs, even the curb going into my driveway.

Do it right - get a set of repro belly pans and weld them in. No sense in half-assing it.
05/20/02   And thats because you are smarter than the designers at Volkswagen. Gooooood luck!!
05/19/02 julian Do not believe the pans are important for strenth
& they only hide the crud at the end of the day.
If we thought for a second she needed it we would have already done it. I want this bus to outlive me
05/18/02 Tony Bus lesson plan, all buses that came with sunroofs from the factory, came with belly pans to support it.
    05/17/02   your wrong mike
    05/16/02 Mike Oh? OK then.
05/15/02   Belly pans aren't used to support a bus
05/14/02 Mike If it is too late to hope that you really didnt do that, at least put in the belly pans to support it.
