This is the late Willi Lotterman's (The VW Godfather) 1950 panel, I believe it is the second or first oldest type II in the world. This picture was taken at Bad Camberg 1995

1953 panel. This panel belongs to Marc Heine Note the rear hatch! His description: I found the bus in a local newspaper, the owner had found it in a garage where it had been stored for 18 years. He wanted it first only for spare parts (the rear axle is the same as on WWII Kubelwagen) but then decided it was worth to be kept as one (phew!!!). I purchased the bus for about 1000 $. It is somewhat rusty, but complete with all pieces, semaphores, 16" wheels, taillights and the original 25hp engine. Kids played in the bus but only in the cargo area which ist now very colorful, but the cab is in original condition. Now, I have this bus in store for about five years and hope to restore it sometimes. Unfortunately this will cost lots of $$ so I will stick with easier projects of restoring other old buses I have for a while.

I got these pictures from Sami Dakhlia This bus belonged to his grandfather years ago, and thats his mom washing it. Its probably an early '53. Notice the shorter upper cargo vents, but the rain gutter goes all the way back. It also has piano-hinge vent wings, which were discontinued after '52.

This is one of the very first busses, a 1949 standard. Note the different bumpers, vertical engine louvers, the rain gutter that only goes 3/4 the way down the roof line, the raised area around the headlights, the stand-up spare tire, the front door hinges are below the beltline, and you can barely make out the external fuel filler in the engine compartment picture.
