Here's a closeup of a barndoor safari window; they're smaller than normal safaris because the barndoor windshield frame is smaller, due to the lack of the overhead vent. Also, there is a rubber seal on the outside, just like a side popout window

This is a very old picture of a humble Kombi working as a real "Public Transportation Bus" in Santiago, Chile. The picture was taken in the 50's. In the back, an electric Mitsubishi trolley bus. Note the painted wings on the front VW logo.

Hi there, here are some pics for the hall of shame of a Rhd barndoor combi used as a shed for field tools. Its a real shame as the body is quite solid but ther isn't an original barndoor trim part left (fancy that front bumper!!). I don't know what year it is, but any ways it's in a field in Malta (where I live) hope you like em!

6-Leg Middle Seat

6-leg middle seat, used on all "Wolfsburg" buses until early 1956 , also referred to as a "barndoor" middle seat, which isn't totally correct, as non-barndoor buses in 55 and 56 had them as well.

I now have all of the outriggers, top-hats and I-beams cut out, and the new ones setup set in place - looks like I'm ready to weld, doesn't it? Nope, not yet. I still have to reset the geometry of the frame rails.

Tonight's progress - got the I-beams and outriggers mostly cut out. I still need to finish cleaning off the old welds and whatnot. In this picture, I've used two straps to pull the sides of the bus inwards to contact the inner rockers.

This is one of the last really rusty sections of this bus - the lower sections where the frame meets the beam. This area has been repaired once previously, from what I can tell, it was prior to 1969.

Here's a shot of the front "top hat" section in a trial fit. I was able to disconnect the shift front and rear shift couplers and lift the shift rods and slide the frame piece on. It was either that or remove the transmission and remove the shift rod altogether
