If you have to cut out a chunk of the bed supports, it's probably a good sign that that kewel new air cleaner you picked up on sale at Pep Boys isn't really right for your bus.

More crap from where the rear-end was sectioned on. The top portion is the new piece; the origin is underneath. They overlap by about 1 1/2"

More crap from where the rear-end was sectioned on. This weld is sorta almost complete, but crappy. They also didn't run the taillight wires thru the frame and up the channel like they're supposed to go, but instead brought them over the shelf and across the edge of the battery tray.

Before the transmission goes in, I have to clean this up. This is the area above the transmission; the groove visible in the pic is the channel for the forward engine seal. The rear end of this truck was sectioned in at some time in it's past; some of the welding left much to be desired.

Spring plate installed. You could almost hear a sign of relief out of the bus as the correct bits went back in. Shoulda painted the bolts - I'll worry about it later.

"Restored" backing plates. I soaked them in CLR for 3 days to remove all of the rust, then rinsed and painted them. Pretty!

12/13/02 Thom CLR = "Calcium Lime & Rust" remover - that's the brand name of the product, found in the cleaning products aisle of your local h/w store or supermarket.
12/12/02 Dirk Thom, I'm courious as to what CLR is, I've not heard of it.

This is the original transmission from my 1960 panel. It had been rebuilt by the previous owner, but I replaced it because of a funny noise, which turned out to be a loose engine fan. Several people committed to buying it, but they all backed out. Too late now.

12/09/02   dove blue - it's the new black!
12/09/02 Thom While it was originally dove blue, I've always been of the opinion that a certain amount of leeway is allowable on commercial models. I want to use a stock, period-correct color, just not dove blue. Then again, by the time I'm ready for paint, I may have changed my mind.
12/07/02 Mike Well if the interpretation means that the blue is Dove Blue, and that is the color it came from the factory then I vote yes. I believe your only choice of color available is the one it came.
