Hello all, I found this 1959 doubledoor on the samba.com last year, the bus whas located in Cottenwood California.The seller told me that the bus sat in a field for more than 25 years. I made a good deal with the seller and he towed it for me to the shipper in LA. After waiting a while and already searching for parts finally the bus whas in Rotterdam in The Netherlands. I found the automobile registration card of the last owner in it, they were around the steeringpipe and the year 1971 whas on it. The bus whas full whit wasps and mous nests and other DB. On the speedo I could read only 48300 miles, and I could see on the condition of the bus that it only has been used for about 10 years, there is now wear on the rear torsionbar rubber parts, also the front axle is as new wen I removed all the sand and clay. Most of the original parts were still on the bus exept the seat, gearbox and engine. I found an engine in The Netharlands correct for this bus and also the gearbox. afcource I need to do some weldingwork, but it`s not to bad. Some body made 6 camperwindows in it and that is a hard thing to get that perfect as original. It whas a big risk to buy it from internet but I`m very happy with it. In a couple of years this bus will be a great driver

I have a 1974 VW bus that I bought new on Euro delivery. The bus has about 29,000 original owner miles. It lives in the garage of my familys ski house in Northern Italy. It is in great shape, everything original, and if I put in a new battery, it would start and run. It has US registry and is hard to insure in Europe, and I need the space thats in the garage. Im trying to figure out how much its worth vs. how much I could sell it for locally. Can you give me any kind of ballpark range of its value?

This car was owned by a General Electric executive. In 1959 General Electric used this car as a proto type electric car and they installed a complete electric motor with all necessary equipment and batteries. The car got 40 miles to a charge and would go 55mph. There is a charger included with the car. The fuel tank was removed for batteries.

Here is my 1965 SO44 Westy, during and after a complete strip down, repaint and all new window rubber. I've put 80k miles on it over 12 years as my daily drive (my only car winter and summer), but now it only gets occasional use, mainly camping. It lives outside under a big maple tree up here in Canada, all year round.

My SO44 during and after being stripped down and painted with 6 coats of Sikkens yacht paint (with a brush and roller). It has lived outside all year round in Canada for the last 12 years. I put 80k miles on it as a daily driver but now we just use it for camping ( only a couple of '000 miles per year now). Interior is complete and in good condition except the small table is missing.

This is my original paint, complete 1965 Westfalia SO44 ordered new in Germany to U.S. specs and brought to the States in 1969. I bought it from the couple who owned it for 35 years in a small town 35 miles west of St. Louis, Missouri. I have preserved it and made it roadworthy over the past year.

We(Wilene and I) took my 1967 Splitty(camper), down to the coast(South African), we did about 1400 miles(+- 2100 Km), We camped next to lakes and some other beautiful places , We visited Jo, who is a avid VW collector and restored and took some pictures of his busses (and a very rare Rometsch Coupe) the only one in South Africa, he had some cool stuff, We also met Steve "the mayor of the beachfront" who has been living in his bus for the last +- 2years, (written on the His shirt Lifes a Beach...) Sooo much fun, My bus treated us good, But we needed to replace the whole clutch, Lucky for me my friend koBUS was there to help, he showed and did all the work needed... I owe Him A lot!!! A friend of mine gave me this '59 standard for parts. Originally mango and gray, it is now Rustoleum brush-on white. This bus led a hard life - he probably put literally a million miles on it since 1969. His children were conceived in this bus. And yes, they're aware of the fact.

12/20/04 Mose I DP'ed (Epoxy primer/sealer) The floor, then went over top of it with "Rhino-Liner". It is a durable spray on material used mainly in truck beds. This is the ultimate solution for me, since I am using the bus a lot for transporting the mountain bike. Paint would not hold up to the abuse and carpet would look good only for the first few months. It is about 1/4" thick and helps deaden sound inside the bus also.
