March 1955 Kombi March 1955 Kombi March 1955 Kombi March 1955 Kombi

This March '55 bus was given to me by a kind little old lady after I offered her money for it. She refused to take money for it even after I told her what it really is and how rare it is. I found it in a farm field on the Caifornia/Nevada stateline about 5 years ago approximately 50 miles from Reno, Nevada. It is rust free and is not for sale.

http://www.twoand8.com
"Matilda" is a 62 Panel Van, RHD and totally stock (for now). Apart from a 12v conversion nothing has been touched. The paint is totally matt and she's a bit tatty but extremely reliable and used weekly. Plans are to treat her to IRS and thus a bit of lowering and then do a nice interior and generally start tidying her up from the inside out. A big engine would be cool but for now the origional 1200 is super reliable and very ecconomical. A paint job is last on the list as I'm not exactly a lottery winner. Cheap, cheerful and well loved. I went halves with my girlfriend to buy her, which makes it even cooler.

Gombos György
I'm George Gombos from Europe/Hungary/Budapest. I would like to share my new find with all of you Bus guy, maybe you'll like it. It's a '67 single cab. Beside this I do own a '59 Kombi, ex austrian Fire engine, in a quite good state, under some slight restoration work in the moment. Of course I do love Beetles too therefore I've put together a nice '65 Resto Cal Convertible with 1835 ccm and twin 48DRLA's (imported from LA/Azusa by myself in a relatively poor state in '95). Porsches are the dream cars of all VW enthusiasts therefore I keep some of them too (911T, 3,2 Carrera Targa, 993 C2), but I must confess that Buses are my favourites now. Some more words later, now please find enclosed some pics of my two VWs, the '67 SC "before and after" (now with 4,5 & 5,5 Sprint Stars and Safaris) and the Beetle. The body of the SC is rusty under the matt finish new and cheap (400 USD) paintwork but funny. Within three years will be fully restored. Kindest regards George from Budapest

01/08/03 incynr8 Right on man, they're ALL buses!
01/07/03 THE 'TRUTH' First you fuckers rag on baywindows, now your raggin' on different type of splits.
Either this site, or the whole friggin hobby is going to shit!!
01/07/03 incynr8 Deluxes can join the working class and NOT be two tone. I have an all lotus white 13 with an 8 foot rack, Hauls camping gear and has two spare windows.
11/20/02 Sean I'd chop up a panel so I wouldn't have to see it lowered with BRMs or 5 Spokes! Bleeeackkk!
All kidding aside, We all agree that cutting it up for a camper would be the MOST noble of acts, followed by a kombi, standard, truck and then a panel or deluxe.
11/20/02 Matt Not a youngster, been working on VW's for 18 years. Kombi's and Panels are a dime a dozen, that's just a fact, look at the production numbers. I don't turn my nose up at any split window bus I love them all. I also chopped up a 58 panel for parts, behind my shop looks like a VW scrap yard.
11/20/02 Kombi God I'd cut up a Deluxe to save a Kombi. Deluxes are a dime a dozen.
11/20/02 Kurt Cobain Sacrifice a kombi for a deluxe? You are misguided friend, you must be a youth, correct? Is that what the magazines teach you kids these days that deluxes are cooler than the working class? I turn my nose up a two tone buses.
11/20/02 Greg Hell, I'd sacrifice a Kombi for a Panel.............
11/19/02 john baker Not to sound like a vulture, but do you need that spare tire well? mine was hacked out.
thanks.
john
11/19/02 Matt I bought this bus as a shell, I even had to bring my own tranny to get it home. I need the good sheet metal for my 55 23 window. This bus has a really good driver side rear corner with uncut tail lights if anyone needs one. Some times you have to sacrifice a kombi for a deluxe.
11/19/02 Matt When I bought this bus it was already totally stripped of all the parts. It was basically a shell, I had to bring my own tranny just to get it home. I needed some of the good clean sheet metal and a couple of doors for my 55 23 window. This bus has a really nice driver side rear corner with uncut taillight holes if any body needs that. Some times you have to sacrifice a kombi for a deluxe.
11/19/02 Dundee What are you going to do with it?
11/18/02 Tom Mink Is it just me, or does this look like an awfully straight and dry early bus? Seems kind of a shame to chop it up...
