| 07/25/09 | Pive | In 1965 I acquired a cherry blown up '59 Goliath in Berkely CA at a foreign auto wrecker. I had a spare Olds engine/hydro out of my last race car that I transplanted in the rear of the Goliath; with the ladder frame and T&G flooring it was a piece o' cake to do the install. The Olds crossmember was used between the frame rails with about a 10" drop and a '56 Ford radiator fit between the frame rails, too. A '53 Olds rear end practically bolted up to the rear leaf springs. The driveshaft was about 8" long! With a 4.30 screw and the 3000 stall B&M torus it left hard and would just barely hike the left front. Needless to say, it blew a lot of minds! The bummer? I don't have one damn picture! Jim Piver |
| 01/17/06 | alex | haha thats freakin awsome it looks almost just like a vw bus. |
| 12/16/05 | Jerry | Looks alot like one my family had in the late '50s and early '60s. Ours was a lot shinier...but then again, it was also 45 years newer! Ours didn't have the extra windows, tho. I've often thought it would be fun to get another one and transplant a modern drive train into it. That little 2 cylinder 2 stroke engine wasn't robust enough to stand up to southern California driving! When I was a teenager, I thought a beefed up Olds Toronado or Cad Eldo engine + transaxle would be fun....nowadays maybe a Prius...perhaps a Suburu drive train might just drop in with only a little work...Hope someone bought this one and is having fun with it! |

| 03/13/09 | robert | The constant reference to these early "lechttransporter" vans as a VW reference is really juvenile and takes away form the actual historical fact which is that Lechttransporters were a common class of vehicle in Europe from the 1930's on..way before VW did anthing. They were one of many German companies that built lightweight economical vehicles for moving goods..nothing more or less than that. |
| 01/28/08 | Ryan | Does anyone know who currently owns this 57 Goliath? Thanks |

| 07/03/02 | fs | Sorry if the following reads confusingly. I have a parts-and-pieces Goliath truck... soon to go to one of those tax scam donation people if they'll take it. or to scrap. anyone know where to advertise it so that someone might actually use it or some of it? Ive posted on Borgward message boards, usenet, and one local area ad site. ------------------------- since the ad I found more pics on http://vintagebus.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi?string=goliath 3rd and 4th pics from bottom, of "pickup". These are better than the photo I linked to in the ad, because ours has the cab body rounded, grille and air scoop (what to call that?) under the windshield, as shown in these photos. However the sheet metal doesnt "protrude" around the headlights as shown in these photos. http://www.vintagebus.com/gallery/image/515.JPG http://www.vintagebus.com/gallery/image/1245.JPG Ours is mostly disassembled, the body is red with gray primer, but it has fine "dusting" of rust forming in places. At the edge of the roof there is a rust colored blotch similar to the blotch on the door of 515.JPG (definitely not close to scaling etc.) Ours has black hubcaps with a stylized red "G". The roof is about 6 2" high.. ==================== The above is recent info The following is older info I posted in ad(s): ==================== '59 (?) Goliath (Borgward) truck: "Cute". Rusty, weathered with cracked windshield. Also have some usable and many unusable parts. Some engine parts broken, so probably needs engine swap of different manufacturer engine. Rusting. Plywood bed. Red. Heavy payload capability. Front engine/rear drive. Potential sleeper/project (huge mid engine)? It is red, but looks a lot like on http://home.c2i.net/toestlie/borgward/danm98/dk_pic6.htm Will give free or it will go to wreckers. (likely! :) ) Central Contra Costa ------------------- I cant find my film photos I took about one month ago, else Id scan and post photos. thanks in advance for any help for888sale@yahoo.com |

| 12/18/08 | Duane Richards | I have a Goliath touring bus that I would like to sell. It was running when I parked it but that has been several years ago. It is missing the back window and needs the front passenger seat. I also have the manual. I can't remember what year it is right now. Can get the year and some pictures if anyone is interested. Let me know. Thanks Duane |
