Here's the other view of my bus 'Benjamin'. When we bought it, the dealer said that it had been a safari bus. Not sure if it had done some time at the local zoo or what, but it was painted like a zebra sometime during the early 70's. I thought the baja wheels looked cool. The other positive of having such large wheels, is that my cruising speed of 70+ was easily maintained (though slow getting there). Once I get the rear fender wells welded back in, I'll have it sitting on chrome Mange wheels for that stock/custom look.

06/15/02 Conrad The zebra stripes are now history. BTW, I am NOT lowering this bus. Stock height is fine when you have KYB gas shocks, camber compensators, anti-sway bars, and tires with stiff sidewalls (1150+ load rating).
06/07/02 Conrad I got two from a guy in Idaho who was cutting up busses and selling them on eBay. I 'bought' rites to cut up a bus (that had been sectioned by a trike=freak) and have a long passenger side piece I probably won't use. I didn't get the other side (was too tired to finish). The repop is OK if you aren't doing a trailer queen resto (BusDepot.com).
06/02/02 corbin my 66 has the same problem with the wheel wells where do u get the replacment metal for old buses i also have some serious rust on the bottom both sides

Here's my bus 'Benjamin' sitting under the 'new' garden shed I had to build to 'hide' it from the law. The front wheels are off for new king pins, etc. Sporting the baja wheels I got back in the 80's. I finally removed the side scoops, which revealed the lovely zebra paint job this bus once had, the yellow paint job it got on top of that, the baby blue paint job it had on top of that. And underneath it all is the seablue paint it had from the factory. I bought the bus in 82 when it had a baby blue paint job. Getting all this paint off has been a complete pain in the butt. But once I'm down to primer, will make the bead-blasting job more affordable. Note also that this 21 window came with only one pair of pop-outs. Which I have to remove next (by drilling out the screws).

Jamie Rivers on the vintage bus list gave me the idea for this cool logo'd "slow moving sign".
