Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project

http://oacdp.freeweb7.com/

The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project was started with the purpose of putting out-of-print technical resources for the air-cooled Volkswagen online for public use. For more information about the project and its purposes, please click the "about" link below. Please be sure to read the legal information.

Please only download the documents you need, we're not going anywhere!

NOTICE: This is an INDEPENDENT website. Although it is linked from www.vintagebus.com and many others, please send all correspondence regarding this website to the contact address that is (now) prominently displayed below. Thanks for not bothering other webmasters regarding this site.

Project Status 2007-07-04 -- No changes to content, however we have changed hosts - PLEASE UPDATE YOUR BOOKMARKS AND LINKS, the new address for the site is:

http://oacdp.freeweb7.com/

The old server, failsure.net is still up and is redirecting traffic to this address. The story is, the server was hosted at my previous employer. I have a new job now so that arrangement obviously had to end. My ADSL line cannot comfortably handle the traffic coming from this site (I tried for about two weeks) so I had to move it. Eventually, a mirror of this site will appear on failsure.net at a different location to avoid traffic from outdated links.

Note that the larger PDFs and tar.gz files have had to be split up to accomodate the 10MB file limit on the new host. These are in RAR files. If you require a utility which can operate on these files, please try the following Free one: 7zip

I need to probably clean up some stuff...the .gz page links no longer work, etc. But the site should be functional at this address and, most importantly, everybody will stop banging on my poor ADSL line! :-)

Additionally, the contact address has changed. Can't run my own mail server on "dialup".

Enjoy the site!

AW, Coordinator

Type II VW Parts Reference (1950-1954)
gzipped
For "Barndoor" (large engine lid) split-window busses, this manual contains diagrams and part numbers for every single part on the bus, including the special variants like the ambulance and pickup. 530 pages.
Type II VW Parts Reference (1958-1967)
gzipped
For post-barndoor era split-window busses, this manual contains diagrams and part numbers for every single part on the bus, including the special variants like the ambulance and pickup. 750 pages.
SO-42 Camper Parts List
gzipped
A parts list for the split-window SO-42 camper. I think that is all it covers, but I could be wrong. Please let me know about missing information as well. 58 pages.
Solex: Selection and Tuning of the Carburetor
gzipped
This manual from Solex describes how to calculate the correct size of carburetor for an engine (not just VW engines), and how to determine the correct jet sizes and settings. 46 pages.
Local Manufacture of Workshop Equipment
gzipped
This manual contains descriptions and blueprints for over 100 special tools for working on air-cooled VWs -- everything from a body trolley for Type 1s to a headlight bucket alignment jig for Type 34s. January 1959 edition, updated to September 1967. 381 pages.
Damage Numbers (1965 ed.)
gzipped
This manual was used by dealers to report the reasons they replaced Type 1, 2, or 3 parts under warranty. For parts that could come from more than one supplier, it shows how to identify the supplier via logo or other marking. It also has a section on sealing Type 1 and Type 3 bodies - I guess Buses didn't leak!
Workshop Manual: Fresh Air Heaters
gzipped
This manual covers Eberspacher gas heaters installed in several types of air-cooled Volkswagens. These units are relatively unsafe if not well looked after, so hopefully owners of these heaters will find this information useful.
Troubleshooting Guide: BA-4 Gas Heaters
gzipped
This manual covers troubleshooting of the BA-4 gas heater.
